Peter Jay Sharp Foundation Sponsors New York City Quality of Life Contest

Queens Borough President Helen Marshall recently honored students participating in the Working in Support of Education (WISE) Quality of Life contest, which is now in it's 10th year. Sponsored by Deutsche Bank, the Peter Jay Sharp Foundation, and other organizations, the contest asks high school students to develop ideas that will improve the lives of New Yorkers.

Marshall notes, "I am delighted to recognize the talented students who have combined their writing and creative abilities to suggest ways in which their communities can be improved…These students are part of New York City's next generation of thinkers and problem solvers."

More than 1,500 students submitted proposals covering many topics including cancer awareness, immigrant rights, and college preparation for low-income students. Winners of more than $34,000 in scholarships will be awarded on June 5, 2005.
