Verizon Foundation Announces Grants to New York City Nonprofits
The Verizon Foundation provided $17 million to 825 nonprofit organizations in New York State last year in areas such as literacy, technology, and work force development. In New York City, 475 organizations received more than $13.4 million in grants. Recipient organizations included:
-South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corp., to develop job-readiness and computer literacy training initiatives for the unemployed and welfare-to-work individuals.
-Brooklyn Public Library, to support the Surfing Seniors program which teaches senior citizens basic computer literacy skills.
Paul Crotty, Verizon's group president for New York and Connecticut notes, "We believe in investing in our communities through strategic partnerships with organizations that support education and literacy, technology education, and health and human services…Verizon's grants continue to underscore our long-standing goal of improving the communities we serve and our commitment to providing excellent service to our customers."
