Lortel Foundation Supports Small and Mid-Size Theaters
The Lucille Lortel Foundation recently expedited its 2005 grants program, announcing recipients in January rather than in April, as in prior years. The Foundation hopes the shift in timing will facilitate the planning process of its grantees.
Foundation President James J. Ross noted in a press release that, "the companies we serve have small staffs which are very busy in the late fall and early spring creating theatre. By rescheduling our grant program, we hope to better serve these organizations at a less busy time of year. We also hope that the earlier receipt of a grant will relieve stress and provide for better planning since a recipient will not have to wait until the end of its season before knowing how much funding it will receive for the following season."
Nonprofit theaters that have operated in New York City for three years with revenues of $200,000 to $2.5 million are eligible for the Foundation's General Operating Support program. Visit the Foundation's Web site for more information: http://www.lortel.org.
