Social Entrepreneurship and the Environment in an Urban Context

New York

Wednesday, June 4, 2008
6:00-8:00 pm
Free Admission

A special "Funding for the Environment Month" program.

When we think of social entrepreneurs, we often think of international work. When we think of the environment, we often think of non-urban spaces. Yet an urban area like New York City faces a myriad of environmental challenges, and the innovative approach of social entrepreneurs can make a world of difference in confronting them.

The Foundation Center is pleased to host a panel by NYC Venture Philanthropy Fund (VPF), a new giving circle that supports social entrepreneurs in the 5 boroughs of New York City. Join us for a spirited discussion of how social entrepreneurs can develop innovative work on the environment in an urban context.

VPF will make its first grant this fall to one social entrepreneur working on the environment in New York City. VPF believes that promoting sustainable design and environmental justice will help the city mitigate and adapt to climate change, and that emerging social entrepreneurs hold great promise in developing new solutions in these areas.

This event is offered free of charge, but advance registration is required. Please be prompt; we expect this program to be fully subscribed, and we cannot guarantee seating to late arrivals. No walk-ins, please.

Wheelchair users may enter the New York Library/Learning Center at 8 East 16th Street (between Fifth Avenue and Union Square West). If you need assistance, please contact the Foundation Center at (212) 620-4230. Registrants requiring ASL signers or other disability-related services are asked to contact the Foundation Center at least two weeks in advance.
