Foundation Center Hosts Funding for Health Month in March
Special Events, Free Programs, and Online Resources for Health Professionals,
Fundraisers, and Nonprofit Organizations
New York, NY, February 20, 2004 March 2004 has been designated "Funding for Health Month" at the Foundation Center, featuring a variety of events and educational programs at its five library/learning centers and customized content at its Web site. Aimed at health professionals and researchers looking for funding, and representatives from nonprofit organizations offering health programs and services in their communities, the activities and resources they will find include information on the best ways to secure funding, the latest giving trends in health policy grantmaking, and networking opportunities for grantseekers.
Readers will find two distinct yet complementary views of the funds within the report. In addition to the survey findings drawn from 111 large and small relief funds that are presented in part one, the second part of the report analyzes the actual donations received by 40 of the largest funds, as well as how these funds have distributed this support. Overall, excluding donations from one fund to another, these funds have raised almost $2.9 billion for relief and recovery and contributed $2.2 billion, accounting for the vast majority of dollars raised and disbursed by the more than 350 relief funds created after 9/11. The analysis provides precise breakdowns of funds distributed and estimates of unspent funds by beneficiary group and type of assistance.
The full spectrum of the month’s activities is accessible through a special area of the Center’s Web site at www.foundationcenter.org/focus/health/. "In light of the recent Medicare legislation and growing interest in critical topics such as environmental health and disparities in access to quality health care, we’re seeing an increase in the number of people who are seeking funding for health-related projects," said Judith Margolin, vice president for public services at the Center. "Funding for Health Month is one means of addressing the needs of this group in unique ways that include many opportunities for both grantseekers and grantmakers to come together to learn and to share ideas."
