Announcing the New Expanded Edition of The Foundation Center's Guide to Grantseeking on the Web

A Comprehensive Guide to Funding Research Online

New York, NY. September 23, 2003—The Foundation Center has just issued an expanded and updated edition of The Foundation Center's Guide to Grantseeking on the Web. Packed with a wealth of timely information, including an annotated listing of 3,000+ grantmaker Web sites and a variety of related nonprofit sites of interest, this volume provides both novice and experienced Web users with a gateway to the numerous online resources available to grantseekers. A new chapter, "E-Learning for the Nonprofit Sector," has been added to this new edition to illustrate the potential of this platform to assist staff and volunteers in developing news skills to help in fundraising and nonprofit management.

Maximize Use of the World Wide Web for Funding Research

Foundation Center staff experts have team-authored this guide, contributing their extensive knowledge of Web content as well as their tips and strategies on how to evaluate and use Web-based funding materials. "Since 1994, Foundation Center staff have been cataloging Web sites of value to grantseekers interested in any and all potential sources of support and posting links to these sites on our Web site," explains Kief Schladweiler, the Center's Online Librarian who served as the book's editor. "In issuing this completely updated edition, we hope to continue to help grantseekers make the most of their time spent online as they search for a wide range of support, including foundation funding, corporate giving programs, government aid and gifts from individuals."

Presented in a concise, "how-to" style and filled with sample Web sites, the Guide to Grantseeking on the Web:

  • Structures grantseekers' research with a toolkit of resources—Readers will find many useful references with which to begin and upon which to base their research, including:
    • abstracts of 3,000+ grantmaker and other nonprofit Web sites
    • corporate grantmaking information
    • profiles of searchable databases (both free and fee-based)
    • government funding sources
    • key online journals and newsletters on philanthropy
    • tips on using message boards, discussion groups, and mailing lists
  • Guides users through the Center's Web site - The volume offers readers a tour of the free information and services available at the Foundation Center's Web site,, including such popular resources as Foundation Finder, a Proposal Writing Short Course, The Literature of the Nonprofit Sector Online, Philanthropy News Digest, and an Online Librarian who responds to e-mail reference questions, and much more.

The Guide to Grantseeking on the Web also features a glossary to demystify common Internet terms, suggestions for further reading covering Internet-related titles, and an appendix covering search engines of interest to nonprofit practitioners. The Guide helps grantseekers develop an organized, focused approach to funding research on the Web, opening up a whole new arena of online resources and saving valuable research time. A CD-ROM version of the Guide with hot links is also available and may be purchased separately or with the book at a special package rate.
