The Foundation Center Announces Fall 2002 Training Courses
New York, NY, July 15, 2002: The Foundation Center's Educational Services Department has announced its fall 2002 training schedule featuring a wide range of training courses designed to help grantseekers succeed. The Center will continue its popular series of Proposal Writing Seminars, expanding to fourteen cities this fall. Proposal Budgeting Workshop and Securing Your Organization's Future: Developing a Fundraising Plan, offered for the first time in Spring 2002, will again be held in the Center's New York location as well as in the its four field offices in San Francisco, Cleveland, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. For grantseekers looking for hands-on computer training to conduct fundraising research, the Center offers Grantseeking on the Web; Funding Research with FC Search; and Finding Funding Prospects with the Foundation Directory Online.
New Proposal Budgeting and Fundraising Planning Courses
The new Proposal Budgeting Workshop has quickly become a popular offering. It gives beginners and fundraisers with limited budgeting experience the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the role of a budget in a proposal, whether for special project support or general operating support. Participants in this full-day workshop will learn how to create a detailed budget through practical exercises and case studies in budget preparation.
Securing Your Organization's Future: Developing a Fundraising Plan is a full-day workshop designed to help professionals identify the many avenues available for ensuring the financial viability of their nonprofit organization. Through a series of exercises and worksheets, attendees will learn how to evaluate their current financial situation and develop a comprehensive funding plan that includes a variety of sources from individuals to institutions.
Proposal Writing Seminar Series Expands
The anchor of the Center's training programs is its Proposal Writing Seminar series, which has trained some 22,000 nonprofit professionals since it was launched over ten years ago, continues to add new cities to the schedule. These full-day, information-packed seminars instruct novice grantseekers and more experienced fundraisers on how to construct proposals designed to capture and sustain a funder's attention. Guidelines on how to organize a grant proposal package, how to structure a complex proposal, the appropriate level of detail to include in a budget, and what to write in a cover letter are among the important nuts and bolts that participants gain from these in-depth presentations. Additional topics covered include how to report on a grant's progress and impact, how to re-submit a grant proposal that is initially turned down, and ways that nonprofit grantseekers can build lasting working relationships with grantmakers.
This fall, the Center will bring its Proposal Writing Seminar to Albany, NY for the first time. Seminars will also be returning to New York, NY; Boston, MA; Washington, D.C.; Cincinnati, OH; Philadelphia, PA; Raleigh, NC; East Lansing, MI; Cleveland, OH; Orlando, FL; Dallas, TX; Los Angeles, CA; Atlanta, GA; and San Francisco, CA.
Hands-on Computer Courses Teach Crucial Funding Research Skills
The Foundation Center's hands-on computer courses are held in state-of-the-art computer labs in a small group setting for optimal learning. Grant researchers can attend the full-day, Grantseeking on the Web Hands-on Introductory Training Courses to learn how to maximize use of the Internet for their funding research. Participants learn an organized, focused approach to funding research on the Web by visiting key sites for leads on corporate, foundation, government and individual donor funding. Attendees are also introduced to the essential e-newsletters, discussion lists and interactive tools geared to nonprofits.
For grantseekers who wish to learn how to create the most efficient and effective foundation and grant search strategies, Funding Research with FC Search: The Foundation Center's Database on CD-ROM offers hands-on training taught by staff experts. Participants may choose from the Basic or Advanced FC Search courses, or attend both days to become an expert on such topics as what is in the FC Search database; how to set up searches and customize results; how to print and save; and how to create more sophisticated strategies using Boolean searching and text searching.
The Foundation Center also offers Finding Funding Prospects with the Foundation Directory Online, an interactive training course taught by staff specialists who provide a guided tour of the Center's foundation and grants databases on the Web. Advanced search features and techniques are explored and participants work on case studies to apply their skills.
