New Edition of Corporate Foundation Profiles Meets Demand For Top-Level Data on Largest Corporate Grantmakers

New York, NY, February 22, 2002—The Foundation Center, the nation's premier source of information on foundations and the grants they award, will release in March the new 12th Edition of Corporate Foundation Profiles. This essential fundraising volume provides grantseekers with current, in-depth reports on 181 of the largest corporate grantmakers in the United States.

"The company-sponsored foundations profiled in this volume have made annual contributions totaling well over $1 billion," said the book's editor, Francine Murray. "These corporate dollars represent an important resource to offset diminishing government support. To help nonprofits achieve their funding goals, Corporate Foundation Profiles offers extensive financial data and vital details on foundation giving priorities, the critical information grantseekers need as they research potential grant sources."

Data-Packed Foundation Portraits Include Crucial Information

The Foundation Portrait, the first of three sections included in each corporate foundation profile, provides the essential facts fundraisers need when writing a proposal, such as the grantmaker's name, address, and contact person, purpose and giving limitations statements, and application guidelines. This section also includes an analysis of the sponsoring company, a complete review of the foundation's program interests, and a list of key officials.

Grants Analysis Provides Insight into Funding Patterns

The Grants Analysis offers a detailed breakdown of the corporate foundation's grant program. A series of tables document giving patterns by subject areas, the type of organization receiving funds, the type of support (building funds, matching gifts, etc.), population group, and geographic areas preferred. Each table is followed by a section that highlights the top award categories. For example, after the "subject analysis" table, the volume lists the top three subject areas by grant dollars and, within each subject area, describes the largest and second largest awards and names the largest single recipient.

With such highly detailed information on each corporate funder's giving interests, fundraisers can determine the most likely sources of support for their organization.

Grants List Verifies Giving Interests

The third section of each profile, Sample Grants, lists up to 40 or more grants recently awarded by the foundation. This section supplements the statistical breakdown of the foundation's grantmaking program by showing which organizations have actually received funding from the corporate foundation. Organized by subject, the grant listings include data such as the recipient's name and location, the grant amount, its duration, and a concise description of its intended use when available.

An Essential Corporate Fundraising Tool

No other published source provides a more thorough analysis of major corporate funders, each of which gives at least $1.2 million annually. A quick-scan appendix lists core financial data on 1,131 additional corporate foundations that each give at least $66,000 in grants every year. Researchers also appreciate the extensive indexing system featured in Corporate Foundation Profiles, which allows them to target profiled grantmakers by the names of donors, officers, and trustees, subject areas funded, types of support preferred, geographic location, and international giving.
