The Foundation Center Releases Foundation Growth and Giving Estimates, Current Outlook (2010 Edition)

The recent economic crisis caused the nation's more than 75,000 grantmaking foundations to cut their 2009 giving by an estimated 8.4 percent-by far the largest decline ever tracked by the Foundation Center. Grant dollars fell from $46.8 billion to $42.9 billion. Yet according to Foundation Growth and Giving Estimates (2010 Edition), released today by the Foundation Center, this cutback totaled less than half the 17 percent loss in foundation assets recorded in the prior year.

Grantsfire to Join the Foundation Center

The Foundation Center and Grantsfire have announced a joint effort to ensure that all those who care about philanthropy's contribution to the public good will have access to the most up-do-date information possible. Under the agreement, Grantsfire, a web-based system to capture and publish grants information using Web 2.0 tools and technology, will become a project of the Foundation Center.

Foundation Funding for Climate Change Reached Nearly $900 Million in 2008, Foundation Center Research Shows 12/3/09
As the 2009 Climate Conference in Copenhagen opens, the Foundation Center has prepared a new research advisory that examines foundation support for climate change. Climate Change: The U.S. Foundation Response finds that foundation funding to address issues related to global warming has grown rapidly, climbing from less than $100 million in 2000 to nearly $900 million in 2008.

Decline in 2009 Foundation Giving Steeper Than Anticipated, Survey Finds
11/4/09
Foundation giving will likely decline by more than 10 percent in 2009 according to survey findings released by the Foundation Center. Based on responses of close to 600 foundations, Foundations' Year-end Outlook for Giving and the Sector also finds that continued reductions are expected in 2010.
