Who is funding what and where?

It's a fundamental question. And Foundation Center has new and innovative tools to help answer it. Read more...Drawing from the most comprehensive database of U.S. and global foundations and their grants, Foundation Maps can help you:

  • explore who is supporting your areas of interest by filters such as subject, geography, population served, type of support, organization name, and keyword;
  • get detailed information about funders, grant recipients, and grants;
  • discover new partners for collaboration; and
  • reveal trends, see networks, and monitor changes across the sector.

The Harry and Jeanette
Weinberg Foundation Custom Map

Foundation Center works closely with foundations to help communicate their mission.

Every year, more than 100,000 people visit the Weinberg Foundation through its website. A key feature of its homepage is an interactive custom grants map built using the Foundation Maps platform. The map includes numerous ways to filter and define searches and provides a real-time snapshot of the Weinberg Foundation's grants approved over the past three years. There is a visually striking world map that provides users a high-level view of the Foundation's investments. Additionally, three of the map's highlighted geographic areas include a zoom feature allowing users to see specific grant locations. All grants can be filtered and sorted, searchable by name, and include a brief description of the grant purpose.

Foundation Funding for U.S. Democracy

Foundation Maps serves as the basis for custom projects for networks of funders and individual foundations.

For example, Foundation Funding for U.S. Democracy was developed in partnership with Hewlett Foundation, Democracy Fund, and six other foundations to increase understanding of funding for democracy-related activities and improve coordination among funders working in this field. It helps answer key questions such as: Who else is funding campaign finance reform and voter education, registration, and turnout? How much support have organizations based in Colorado received for advocacy work? What does the universe of civic participation funders and grantees working in California look like? How much is going to specific issues like budgeting, open government and transparency, and civil liberties and rule of law? Which Ohio-based organizations received the most funding for grassroots organizing last year?
