Program Description and Application Guidelines
The Trusts promote the artistic and cultural dynamism of the city by making grants to mid-sized arts and culture organizations in Washington, DC. These organizations generally have a budget between $1 and $10 million. By supporting artistic expression throughout the city, the Trusts seek to open the diverse talents and creative expressions in this city to residents and visitors alike.
Grants may be requested for general operating support, implementation of new initiatives or expansion of existing programs. Applicants may include museums, art service organizations and/or performing arts centers, and professional theatres in Washington, DC.
Grants vary in amount but typically range from $5,000 - $15,000. Grants are based on funding availability, demonstrated need and alignment with the interests of the Trustees. Requests for grants to promote education and outreach in the arts are considered under Youth Programs and are reviewed in the fall grant cycle.
The Trusts provide support to an organization for a maximum of 5 consecutive years (or 5 grants within 7 years). Organizations are then requested to "take a break" from submitting a proposal for the next 3 years. After 3 years the organization is eligible to submit a proposal again. We recommend checking this website before submitting a proposal after a break to be sure that the guidelines and areas of interest have not shifted.
The Trusts may consider a Capital Grant to organizations with whom we have a prior history of giving.
