WARDS 7 & 8 INITIATIVE —
2009 GRANT APPLICATION GUIDELINES

The MARPAT Foundation, in collaboration with the Community Foundation for the National Capital Region, will be considering applications from organizations that focus on the following priorities benefiting residents of Wards 7 and 8:

Funding Priorities:
A major focus of the Wards 7 & 8 Initiative is to increase employment opportunities for low-income residents of Wards 7 & 8. To that end, the MARPAT Foundation has targeted two priority areas of interest - Employment/Workforce Development and Education.

  • Education is defined as programs that prepare youth and adults for successful completion of education and/or employment training programs.
Priority will be given to applicant organizations that do one or more of the following:
  • Create and/or serve as pathways through which unemployed and underemployed individuals attain livable wages and benefits, maintain employment, and realize opportunities for professional and personal advancement
  • Implement effective employment strategies that include one or more of the following components: training, placement, retention activities, and/or comprehensive social services that support trainees/workers and their families
  • Conduct advocacy for improvements to workforce development systems
  • Implement supplemental academic and/or social development strategies that provide pathways to post-secondary education and/or employment training
