"Rather than competing against one another for
prominence, Packard Center scientists represent the
very essence of collaboration. From the beginning,
the Kornfeld Foundation has fostered this
revolutionary research model: an academic center of
excellence, without walls, that unites the best and
brightest minds and supports them in attacking a
complex medical mystery from all angles."

| 2008 GRANT FOR THE ROBERT
PACKARD CENTER FOR ALS
RESEARCH AT JOHNS HOPKINS
The Kornfeld Foundation was
instrumental in establishing the Center
for ALS Research at Johns Hopkins
Medical School in 2000. In 2002 the
Center was renamed the Robert
Packard Center for ALS Research at
Johns Hopkins. The Center is
dedicated to finding a cure for ALS
(Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis a/k/a
Lou Gehrig’s Disease) through
aggressive and innovative research
involving leading scientists and
clinicians worldwide. By involving
“cutting edge” investigators, the Center
has created a model research program
which allows for greater shared
information and quicker response to
scientific discoveries. With the
completion of its initial five-year
$4 million grant, the Kornfeld
Foundation continues to support the
Packard Center at a reduced level.
