I am very pleased to invite qualifying private secondary schools to apply for a grant from the Kindle a Spark Education Foundation (KAS). The Kindle A Spark Foundation was created in 2003 in order to help underprivileged students take control of their futures through outstanding educational opportunities. KAS provides grants to private secondary schools that are committed to offering the academic, financial, and community resources that allow students from diverse socio-economic backgrounds to succeed. Kindle A Spark Education Foundation is NOT able to accept applications from individual students.
Should your application be successful, your school will be awarded a $10,000 grant per year to sponsor one scholarship student for each of the next four academic years, beginning with the 2006-2007 school year. Currently, we have awarded grants to two schools and have the resources to award two more grants. We are particularly interested in establishing relationships with schools which already have developed financial aid programs for economically disadvantaged students and will continue to fund scholarships for disadvantaged youth into the future. Our goal is to help these schools offer more scholarships and/or more fully meet the financial aid needs of its students.
As a condition of receiving this grant, we would ask that the student be identified as a Kindle A Spark Scholar, and we would request reports on his/her progress twice annually. I would also want to visit your school for a tour prior to KAS awarding the grant. Should the student leave your school before completing the four years of high school, we would either withdraw the scholarship funds or reassign them to another student after communication with your staff.
I look forward to receiving your application. Please mail all of the application materials to the address below no later than April 30, 2006. KAS will notify the schools of our decision by June 15. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions about the foundation or the application process.
