Grant Application Process

The Gustafson Foundation is a small family foundation with no paid staff support. The GFF takes pride in having a focused philanthropic strategy and a "hands on" approach to grant making with many of our grantees. Therefore, we have made a conscious decision not to accept unsolicited proposals. An "organic" approach to GFF grant making is taken that begins with a letter of inquiry from a prospective applicant. If the proposed project or program is in line with the GFF mission, guidelines and goals, and if the trustees deem the Foundation has the capacity to explore new relationships, a site visit will be scheduled with the applicant and GFF trustees to explore a relationship between our organizations.

As GFF is interested in long-term relationships (five years or more) with its partner organizations, an applicant will not be invited to submit an application until the prospect of a successful long-term relationship is assessed.

An organization's first step to developing a relationship with the GFF is to register online. To register, follow this link to the GFF grants management software and click the "create a new account" button. Once your organization has submitted the information requested, it will be registered and able to submit a letter of inquiry.

Letters of Inquiry may only be submitted online using the GFF grants management software between September 1st and October 31st of each calendar year. The link to submit an LOI is active only during that time period. Learn more about submitting a letter of inquiry.
