“We have become not a melting pot
but a beautiful mosaic. Different
people, different beliefs, different
yearnings, different hopes, different
dreams.”

isdom and foresight guided CPA’s early leaders when the California
Psychological Association Foundation (CPA-F) was first
established in 1987. Recognizing that by the year 2000 California’s
census would significantly change with ethnic minority groups comprising a
majority, CPA-F was organized with diversity as its major focus. CPA-F was
established as a 501(c)(3) organization to carry out the charitable endeavors of
the CPA.
California is experiencing a dramatic shift in the make up of its citizenry.
The 2000 U.S. Census officially confirmed California’s population is now a
“minority majority.” No racial or ethnic group in California forms a majority.
California’s strength is in its cultural diversity.
All persons regardless of culture, race, or ethnicity have the right to enjoy
the benefits of effective mental health preventative and treatment services.
A drastic shortage of licensed ethnic minority psychologists exists in
California creating a chasm between the mental health needs of California’s
citizens and the number of culturally competent trained psychologists. |
