Since 2003 the Foundation has devoted its resources to understanding and communicating the losses children experience when their parents are arrested and incarcerated.
The Foundation has
• documented what is happening to children of prisoners and their families in Allegheny County
•
shared its findings with the general public, involved individuals, and government officials
•
forged partnerships with hundreds of others in Allegheny County and elsewhere to achieve gains for children of incarcerated parents and members of their families.
Through this initiative, the Foundation seeks to
• increase community understanding of children of prisoners and the policies and practices that strengthen their emotional lives
•
help members of the community and government implement programs designed to improve the well-being of children whose parents are incarcerated.
The Foundation’s “signature” process has been to research, publish, mobilize, pilot, and transition to sustainability. The process begins by gathering information from those most impacted – parents in jail, their children, and families. It ends with ensuring changes endure by transitioning successful projects to sustainability. Home l The Foundation l Our Initiative l Reports & Media l Contact Us
