The Champlin Foundations are comprised of three foundations, the first established in 1932 by George S. Champlin, Florence C. Hamilton and Hope C. Neaves, who also created The Second Champlin Foundation in 1947. Both of these trusts are administered by the same Distribution Committee. The Third Champlin Foundation was established by George S. Champlin in 1975 and is administered by a separate Distribution Committee. All three foundations share the same management and PNC Bank/Delaware is the trustee of each.

The Champlin siblings grew up in Rhode Island, and George Champlin and Florence Hamilton lived their entire lives in this state. They were active in the world of philanthropy for many years and made substantial personal contributions during their lifetimes, often anonymously.

The Champlin Foundations are private foundations as defined in Section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue Code and are exempt from Federal income tax under Section 501(c)(3).

The Foundations make direct grants to tax exempt organizations, substantially all in Rhode Island, mostly for capital needs. Capital needs may consist of equipment, construction, renovations, the purchase of real property and reduction of mortgage indebtedness.

One important goal is to fund tax exempt organizations within Rhode Island that will have the greatest impact on the broadest possible segment of the population. Another important goal is to provide "hands on" equipment and facilities for those being served by these tax-exempt organizations.
