The Edyth Bush Charitable Foundation, Inc. of Orlando and Winter Park, Florida, was founded 1966 by the late Edyth Bush (Mrs. Archibald G. Bush) of Winter Park, Florida. In 1973, about a year after her death, the Foundation received part of its inheritance of the residue of her large estate. Since that time, the Foundation has disbursed or appropriated over $68,704,783 to various needy charitable, educational, health services and cultural organizations, $61,632,597 of which has been disbursed chiefly in Central Florida and Florida. Prior to their deaths, Mrs. Bush and her husband each contributed many millions of dollars to charitable and educational organizations in Florida, as well as in Minnesota where Mr. Bush was a Director, and with his wife, principal stockholder of Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing Company. In 1941, Edyth Bush built and founded the Edyth Bush Theatre, which was also a school of theatre arts, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Much of her personal philanthropy was directed toward assisting organizations serving crippled or handicapped children, the blind, the deaf, and private higher education (such as Rollins College in Winter Park). At the time of her death, Mrs. Bush was also Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bush Foundation of St. Paul, Minnesota, which she and her husband founded in 1953.
