Barbara Blumenthal
Dr. Blumenthal’s work in the nonprofit sector has included research, teaching, and consulting. She has a Ph.D. in Management from the University of Michigan and has been a Visiting Lecturer at Princeton University since 1999, teaching management of government and nonprofit organizations at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs.
She has advised a number of foundations on the design and implementation of capacity building programs, and has recently worked with Community Resource Exchange in New York City to design an evaluation of its own capacity building work with grantees. Currently, she is conducting research and delivering workshops for nonprofit consultants designed to help them improve their effectiveness at capacity building. Her article, "Improving the Impact of Nonprofit Consulting," appeared in the Journal for Nonprofit Management, Volume 5, Number 1, in the summer of 2001.
Dr. Blumenthal is an independent management consultant with extensive domestic and international experience in the commercial sector as well, having worked on large-scale change programs at global firms such as Royal Dutch Shell, Ameritech, Moore Corporation, DaimlerChrysler, and Cap Gemini. Leadership development has been central to her many consulting projects, often using an action learning workshop format to help senior executives develop their leadership capabilities. In addition, Dr. Blumenthal has conducted research on mergers and acquisitions and worked with clients on merger implementation.
