Though we are often told not to believe something that sounds "too good to be true," it is also important to keep in mind that there are many scholarships that are awarded for unique, and seemingly arbitrary, reasons.
One such scholarship we have heard of (and the only one of its kind we have found) is available to students who are left-handed. This is the Frederick and Mary F. Beckly Scholarship, administered by Juniata College. The scholarship, given in the amount of $1,000 (or $2,000 to $3,000 according to one source) is awarded to left-handed students enrolled at Juniata College. For more information, write to Office of Student Financial Planning, Juniata College, 1700 Moore Street, Huntington, PA 16652.
For some articles discussing this and other unusual scholarship awards, see South Coast Today's Wacky Scholarships (July 1996).
