A summary of the discussion held during the first meeting of the World Congress of Muslim Philanthropists, in Istanbul. The organization aims to increase the visibility of giving by Muslims, whose yearly contributions amount to billions of dollars, but whose philanthropic tradition remains largely unknown worldwide. This is often due to the tendency of Muslim households to give directly to the needy rather than to an organization, and also due to the discreet nature of Islamic giving compared with that of other groups.
