What is Electronic Reporting?

Foundation Center maintains the most comprehensive database on U.S. and, increasingly, global grantmakers and their grants—a robust, accessible knowledge bank for the social sector. We structure the publicly available grants information of funders and bring it to life for the thousands of Foundation Center visitors, through our libraries and global network of partners, and users of our online data services.

Sharing your information directly with us through eReporting ensures the timeliest information is available to the sector and the story of your foundation's giving is told accurately in Foundation Center platforms and data-sharing initiatives such as Get on the Map.

Software partners make e-reporting easy! It's as simple as downloading grants data into an Excel spreadsheet and emailing it to egrants@foundationcenter.org.

Why eReport?

By contributing your grants data, you are fueling a network of knowledge that not only benefits you but builds an invaluable resource for the philanthropic field.

By sharing your grants data, you are:

  • Driving the story of your foundation's giving, ensuring it's told accurately
  • Putting your data to work to answer hard questions about collaboration, funding trends, gaps and impact
  • Supporting staff onboarding and due diligence
  • Joining a community of over a thousand funders that share their data with us and use it to inform decision-making

As an eReporter, you will also receive a complimentary, interactive map—powered by Foundation Center's premier data visualization application, Foundation Maps—with your foundation's grantmaking for fiscal years submitted through the eReporting Program.

Your eReporter map can serve as an internal resource to your board and staff, allowing you to aggregate and filter your grantmaking, as well as answer media inquiries, in an instant. The map can also be posted publicly on your website, removing the guesswork for grantseekers and helping tell your foundation's story.

How do I eReport?

  • EXPORT a complete list of your most recent grants in Excel

Our software partners offer a pre-formatted export function that pulls the necessary data into an Excel file automatically. If you do not use one of the listed software partners or to reference a complete list of required and preferred fields, please download our eReporting template.

The data you provide will be mapped to Foundation Center's taxonomy, the Philanthropy Classification System, and will show up in databases and resources that reach a wide social sector audience, including your free eReporter map.
