MapShot: Community Foundations

About the Map

Community foundations make vital contributions to their local geographic areas. In these difficult times, they can be a valuable local resource for nonprofit organizations seeking not only funding but other types of information and assistance that can help sustain their organizations.

Our Community Foundation MapShot includes all community foundations and their geographic affiliates contained in the Foundation Center's database of grantmakers — a total of more than 850 across the United States. Three sets of data are displayed on the U.S. map: number of foundations, total giving, and total assets.

Clicking on a state will bring you to a map of that state, where you can see the number, giving, or assets of the foundations mapped by county, city, ZIP code, or congressional district.

If you drill down further, you will find a list of the foundations in local areas, and you can view profiles with key information about each community foundation or geographic affiliate. Each profile includes address and contact information, background, fields of interest, fiscal information, and links to the recent 990s filed by the foundation, where appropriate. Please note that geographic affiliates have no fiscal information or 990 links, since they are not legally separate from the foundations with which they are affiliated.

More information about individual community foundations and affiliates can be found in the Foundation Center's Foundation Directory Online Professional, including recent grants and maps and charts of giving for the largest foundations.
