About the Map

To help keep the public informed about the flow of American Reinvestment and Recovery Act funds, federal agencies are beginning to report on the weekly distribution of funds on a state-by-state basis. Summary information on the disbursement of funds for all agencies can be found at recovery.gov.

The Foundation Center, in cooperation with the Department of Education (DOE), and using source data drawn from publicly available information at recovery.gov, has created a map that displays information specific to the distribution of ARRA funds for education reform. The map displays the following: 1) a state-by-state overview of what the DOE has announced they intend to give to each state ("Total Investment Dollars Announced"), 2) the amount each state now has available ("Total Investment Dollars Made Available"), and, 3) the amount that has already been paid out ("Total Investment Dollars Paid Out").

The total investment dollars for all states is included at the top of each of the three map views available. To change the map views, click one of the three radio buttons located in the upper left-hand corner of the map: Total Announced, Total Made Available, or Total Paid Out. To view the total dollar amounts for each of these categories by state, simply roll your mouse over each state. A pop-up box will reveal the statewide totals for each of the three categories. The shaded areas on the map represent low- to-high dollar ranges which are indicated in the legend that appears directly below the map. The shading on the map will change when different map views are selected.

The Foundation Center will update the map weekly based on information made available from the Department of Education and recovery.gov. This mapping tool was developed to ensure that education funders have convenient access to timely information about the status of ARRA funds for education on a national level as well as in the states and regions in which they are actively engaged in improving educational opportunities.
