U.S. Assistant Deputy Secretary Jim Shelton held a conference call with education grantmakers on Monday, June 6.

The call provided funders with a briefing on the new i3 competition, including a discussion of two new absolute priorities of importance: (1) promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and (2) improving achievement in rural schools. Jim Shelton then answered questions from the participants.

He then answered questions from the participants about the role for education funders as states and districts implement reforms in a difficult fiscal environment.
