Grants That Make a Difference
October 1, 2007
"Grants that Make a Difference" highlights grants given to Southeastern organizations that have helped make a difference in people's lives. Getting the grant is only the beginning of the story. At least once a month, "Grants That Make a Difference" will profile these important grants and what their recipients are doing with them.
The North Carolina Arts Council is accepting applications for the 2008-09 artist fellowship awards. Awards have been increased from $8,000 to $10,000 each, and they include a new category for craft artists.
The program operates on a two-year cycle. Choreographers, film/video artists, craft artists, and visual artists are eligible to apply this year. Composers of jazz and classical music, songwriters, playwrights, screenwriters, spoken-word artists, and writers of fiction, poetry, literary nonfiction, and literary translation will be eligible to apply in the fall of 2008.
Fellowships may be used to set aside time for work; pursue projects that further artistic development and support the realization of specific creative ideas; or buy supplies and equipment.
Applicants must be at least 18 years old; be a U.S. citizen or holder of permanent resident alien status; have been a year-round resident of North Carolina for at least one year immediately prior to the application deadline; remain a North Carolina resident during the grant period and be physically present in the state for the majority of the grant period; and not be enrolled at the time of application or during the grant period in an academic or degree-granting program.
Visit the Arts Council Web site for complete program guidelines.
