In this role, she will help the company strengthen and deliver its brand promise of higher standards. Mitchell is responsible for the strategic planning, coordinating and leveraging of the bank's local philanthropic contributions, managing events and sponsorships and facilitating relationships with community and opinion leaders. She will work closely with Gene Godbold, president of Bank of America in Georgia, and the market's cross-functional leadership team to demonstrate the bank's commitment to the community.

"Shirley brings a great deal of experience, skill and leadership to this position," said Godbold. "She has been integral in optimizing AT&T's community relations as well its external and internal affairs, so we know she understands and cares deeply about the needs of our community. Her experience will help us continue our commitment to higher standards and making Bank of America one of the most admired companies in the communities where our customers live, work and do business."

Since 1996, Mitchell served as the regional corporate relations director for AT&T. A graduate of Howard University with an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, Mitchell succeeded at a number of positions at AT&T including, marketing programs analysis director, strategic planner and senior project manager.

She is a board member and gala chair for the 2002 and 2003 National Black Arts Festival, board member for Women Looking Ahead Magazine, secretary of the board for Jomandi Productions and vice president of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women - Metro Atlanta Chapter. She has been voted as one of the 100 most influential women in Georgia in 2001, 2002 and 2003 by Women Looking Ahead Magazine.

"I am thrilled to play a direct part in bringing the full resources of Bank of America to Atlanta," said Mitchell. "Bank of America is committed to making the communities we serve better places to live, through philanthropic contributions, sponsorships and being active, committed corporate citizens. I am very excited about being a part of this activity."
