The Wachovia Foundation, the charitable arm of financial services provider Wachovia Corp., has given a $1.5 million grant to North Carolina State University in Raleigh to support diversity initiatives, scholarships, research, and a new visitors center on campus.
The school's College of Management will receive $1 million for undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, and enrichment activities for its MBA candidates. The funds will also support minority students and diversity initiatives at the college. Of the remaining portion, the William and Ida Friday Institute for Educational Innovation at NC State's College of Education will receive $250,000 for research, and the E. Carroll Joyner Visitor Center, which will be built next year, will also receive $250,000.
"The Wachovia Foundation's commitment to NC State recognizes the vital role the university plays in teaching, research, and service to the community," said Marye Anne Fox, the school's chancellor. "The foundation shares our mission of educating students for twenty-first century life and work, ensuring our citizens' quality of life, and partnering effectively with other organizations to strengthen communities. We're thankful for the support from a great corporate partner."
