Bank of America announced in June 2003 that Andrew Plepler has been named president of Bank of America Foundation. After joining the foundation in July, Plepler will be responsible for managing the foundation's overall mission and coordinating its national focus with local philanthropic efforts throughout Bank of America's nationwide organization.

The Bank of America Foundation currently operates with the largest philanthropic budget of any financial institution in the United States. The foundation directs charitable giving on behalf of Bank of America, providing grants to nonprofit organizations working to improve neighborhoods and communities across America.

Mr. Plepler comes to Bank of America Foundation from the Fannie Mae Foundation, where he served as senior vice president of Housing and Community Initiatives. He oversaw three of the Fannie Mae Foundation's primary grantmaking departments, as well as all five regional offices (Dallas, Philadelphia, Pasadena, Atlanta and Chicago). He supervised the Outreach and Education Department, including the foundation's personal finance program, and directed the foundation's community development efforts in Washington, DC, which accounts for a third of its overall grantmaking.

Prior to joining the Fannie Mae Foundation, Plepler served as a trial attorney for the U.S. Department of Justice in the Tax Division. He also worked on Capitol Hill as counsel to the U. S. Senate Committee on the Judiciary.
