Sara Engelhardt is president of the Foundation Center, the nation's leading authority on philanthropy. She joined the staff as executive vice president in 1987, having served on the Center's Board of Trustees from 1984.
For over 20 years, Ms. Engelhardt was on the staff of Carnegie Corporation of New York. During the final 12 years of her tenure there (1975-1987), she served as secretary of the corporation and managed the foundation's grants. In addition, she was program officer in the areas of philanthropy and nonprofit organizations and of women in higher education and public life.
Ms. Engelhardt serves on the boards of the National Council for Research on Women and the Education & Research Foundation of the Metro New York Better Business Bureau.
A 1965 graduate of Wellesley College, Ms. Engelhardt holds a master's degree in administration of higher education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
