The Information Technology department is responsible for supporting and maintaining all of the Foundation Centers systems and networks at its NY headquarters and 4 field offices. This includes all hardware, network and software development. The IT department has grown considerably over the years from a staff of 3 in 1995 to over 15 today. The department is made up of Network services staff, Web services staff, Electronic Product support staff and Publishing services staff.
JR. PROGRAMMER
Reports to: Application Development Manager
Job summary: Design web application solutions, write specifications, develop and test software, integrate systems, and provide production support for all Foundation Center information systems and databases.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, test, and debug web applications using PHP, Perl, Javascript and SQL
- Participate in application design discussions
- Develop user interface solutions for the web
- Responsible for all quality assurance testing of newly developed programs
- Utilize version control software
- Develop and maintain user/system procedures for batch processing
- Maintain thorough documentation of all programs and procedures
- Perform other departmental or organizational tasks, activities or projects as assigned by the supervisor
Requirements:
- BA/BS degree. Experience with one of the following programming languages required: PHP, Perl, Javascript, and SQL. Familiarity with Java, Subversion and Unix a plus. General aptitude towards programming more important than expertise in a particular language
- Experience with relational database principles and object-oriented design concepts
- Familiarity with programming techniques and application design principles
- Must be an organized, detail-oriented self-starter who works well independently as well in a team environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work with a variety of staff and consultants
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends as necessary
