New York, NY -- April 25, 2013. The Foundation Center, the leading source of information about philanthropy worldwide, elected Susan Kish to its board at a meeting of the trustees on April 19, 2013. Ms. Kish is head of cross-company initiatives at Bloomberg L.P. where she oversees the collaboration and integration of the company's global businesses. This role encompasses a wide-ranging portfolio that includes Bloomberg New Energy Finance, Bloomberg Government, Bloomberg Law, and the Bloomberg media and financial products.
Previously, Ms. Kish was director of knowledge services at BNEF (New Energy Finance, a subsidiary of Bloomberg), an independent provider of research in renewable energy, smart energy technologies, and carbon markets. In 1999 she founded and became CEO of First Tuesday Zurich, an independent think tank that supported the development of thought leader networks and innovative knowledge sharing in areas such as sustainable energy, mobile/telecom, and financial services. After First Tuesday Zurich was acquired in 2006 by the professional online network XING, she became XING's head of network and community practice. Susan was also with UBS for more than 14 years, most recently as global functional head of structured finance and private banking in Zurich, and, prior to 1995, she held a variety of executive positions at UBS in New York.
At the center of the 56-year old Foundation Center's work is the aggregation and organization of data, along with producing and disseminating knowledge, about philanthropic activity. Recent innovations in information management and knowledge services technologies promise to increase its capacity to harness and add value to the data it collects.
"Susan's experience at Bloomberg is perfect fit as the Foundation Center evolves from data publisher to a knowledge services organization," said Bradford K. Smith, president of the Foundation Center. "Her guidance will be instrumental as we explore how best to deliver intelligence directly into the hands of the organizations and individuals that can leverage it to change the world."
"The Foundation Center has proven that transparency and reliable data are critical to effective philanthropy," said Susan Kish. "Looking forward, the Center needs to deliver that leadership in a world where technology and data will both disrupt and enable philanthropy in powerful new ways. I look forward to contributing to that critical work."
Ms. Kish is a director and co-founder of the Energy Venture Forum, the foundation which established and produces the European Energy Venture Fair in Zurich. She is an independent director and advisor on several boards, including the SwissNex Science Consulate and the global Sandbox Network. She is an experienced public speaker and facilitator at corporate events and universities on topics including networks, innovation, and risk. Ms. Kish graduated from Harvard University and lives with her family in Boston.
